China has announced a 15-day visa-free regime for six European countries. These include Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg. Visa-free travel will be introduced on an experimental basis from March 14 to November 30, 2024. During this period, passport holders from these countries will be able to enter the Celestial Empire without a visa for business and tourist purposes, to visit relatives and friends, as well as transit.This initiative is consistent with the PRC’s commitment to facilitate visa procedures for foreigners coming to the country for work, study and travel, as indicated in the government’s 2024 report.”We hope that more countries will also offer visa facilitation to the Chinese and work with us to create accelerated schemes for cross—border travel,” said Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister.Starting in July 2023, citizens of Japan, Brunei and Singapore can re-enter China for up to 15 days without a visa. During the period of restrictions due to Covid-19, this measure was suspended.In addition, in the period from December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024, passport holders of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia can enter China without visas for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, as well as transit for no more than 15 days.
