The tourism industry accuses the Sri Lankan government of corruption around the visa scheme
Sri Lanka has announced that the e-visa system has been suspended after just four months. Now travelers must obtain visas upon arrival. The decision to suspend the electronic visa system is allegedly related to contradictions — the local tourism industry accuses the Sri Lankan government of corruption around the visa scheme, Visaguide.News reports. Business visas have been suspended indefinitely, but tourist visas can be issued on arrival for up to 30 days. The government adopted the electronic visa system in April, according to Travel News, and then the cost of the visa was increased by 50%. The system was managed by VFS Global and IVS-GBS and was designed to simplify the visa application process.
